Originated from the Malay-Indonesian word, ‘ikat’ means ‘to tie’. It’s an exquisite piece of 6 yards that takes not one but the hard work of two craftsmen. The karigars or the masters of ikat bring magnificence to life every time a woman drapes this gorgeous saree around her.

Andhra Pradesh, the birthplace of ikat, is proud of its work and art form. The artisans of rural India worked very hard over centuries and generations to make themselves perfect in this form of art. So, it’s time we recognize their endeavours and felicitate their excellence by adopting their produces.
