Mythology has it that the course of the holy Ganga was through heaven only. She was brought down to Earth in the form of a deity to cleanse the ancestors’ ashes of King Bhagirath.
But why?!
Well, 60,000 of his ancestors died because sage Kapila once cursed them. When Bhagirath sought to perform a certain ceremony for his ancestors’ deaths, he couldn’t find water anywhere. As he prayed to Lord Brahma, the deity said to King Bhagirath that only Lord Vishnu can bring the divine Ganga to Earth.
When Mother Ganga descended on the lands, she not only touched the ashes of those 60,000 princes but also fertilised that entire region. That’s why devotees take a dip in this holy river in the month of Jyestha to purify their sins and heal all physical illnesses. India Imprints working as a platform to revive the Indian culture connects with this belief immensely and trusts the healing powers of Mother Nature in every form.
