Indian block printed designs go as back at 3000 BC.

Indian block printed designs go as back at 3000 BC. The excavations at Mohenjo-Daro found scraps of cloths with implications of block prints. This art later flourished from the dawn of the 12th century, where it gained fame under the court of the rajas.

Today, carrying forward the patronage of the ancient maharajas, block printed styles are used vigorously in Indo-western outfits. Most indigenous designers of today use floral, animal prints, swastika or other religious symbols embedded in uniquely fashioned costumes.

This age-old style is not only exotic, but it’s quite harrowing to create. If you ever go for a tour in remote villages of India, you can still set the bent head of artisans working diligently on finishing these block prints.

The fabric is printed washed, and the kept aside along with the dyed colours. Then after the initial preparatory processes, the teak or wooden blocks are dipped in the oil infused colours and pressed over the garment to create a design.

These are then printed, dried and steamed to freeze the colours and make the garment ready. Moreover, these designs don’t fade either; they are ironed, and the dye is frozen for good, resulting in eye-catching gorgeous fabrics.

Authentic and laborious, our sub-continental clothes makers put all their energy and soul into designing these pieces of art.

Besides, these designs are getting popular, and wearing them adds a certain charm to an individual’s personality. Decked with the proper indo western jewellery, one can amplify their overall appearance while looking smart and defined.

Indian imprints are a platform that hopes to bring out these hidden designers who toss and toil to create this block printed clothing. Come; let’s thank them for preserving the age-old art of block printing and revolutionising it, by complimenting today’s generation.
